 CD cover and Advert Photoshop : Through constant layering and contrasting the colours, this is how we accomplished the vibrancy with out CD cover and also the creativity and manipulation needed to fit in with the indie rock genre.

 Selecting our Font was quite simple as I feel we all had the same idea of what font to use to fit in with the conventions of indie rick genre and so once we found the font: Brain Flower, we knew that this one would present an Indie Rock feel to our ancillary texts.

Ancillary Plans...

This is the design concept we have for our Advert is that it shows all four band members at once in the colours that they are seen in throughout both the music video and also our ancillary task in order to link them all together. the paint splatter behind them, I felt, was an imporatant factor to show as it connotes to those happy child hood memories of not caring and having fun. also due to the messy nature of paint this then challenges normal conventions of indie rock genre as many aspects within them are clean and precise. This is also the same for our CD cover as we wish to show similarities between the two whilst having different styles about them both.

Location Permission Letters/Emails

Without these Location permission letters or Emails, we will not know whether we can film where we want to, as one of our main locations is in a council park and so we would need some form of notification allowing us the right to film so we are not stopped halfway through filming and/or get into trouble. This also goes for filming in someone's house and filming in one of the schools drama rooms, as we will not know if we can because of lessons and after school clubs going on, we would need to be prepared.

Props/Costumes/Make-up

After discussing possible options of Props/Costumes/Makeup the list above shows our ideas. Overall we chose to not have any make-up for our performers as it does not link into our concept and we found that with the band members being male and we are going for a more trendy and naturalistic look we felt it would not make sense. But with all our prop decisions they make sense to our video ideas and when thinking of the props whilst looking over our story board we can envision how the video will look and from that it is understandable. This then is the same for our costume ideas, and with everything put together it will potentially make our music video more professional.

Song Details...

The song chosen, ‘Blue Cassette’ by Friendly Fires has been selected as it follows the criteria of being a British artist, singing a British song, from the British artist’s album. Also the song decided upon does not have music videos already and so allows the group and myself to come up a new and original idea as we have no motive as there is no video. The reason for choosing this song is not only does it come under our criteria but also the sung (beat & tempo) is quite conventional of an Indie Rock Genre, especially as it sung and performed by a male. From listening to the song and studying the lyrics, we thought of the possibilities of having three set forms of performance/narrative and a mixture of the two. This will allows our group to create a well thought out, professional looking Indie Rock music video whilst still interesting our target audience.

Roles...

Initial Ideas

We worked together when disguising our initial ideas as I feel for total team communication dialogue seemed the best way forward, and by communicating verbally it allowed each member of our group to vocalise their thoughts. For our Indie Rock music video, i feel we all agreed on what the basics of each sub-category should be (highlighted in either Yellow or Blue on the mind map), however the most important aspect of our music video, which i feel we all agreed on with confidence and motivation to successes with a high mark, was the genre of our music video. Indie Rock genre seemed to be a favourite within our group and after having further investigations into a target audience and the genre of music each person prefers, most of our answers came back with either Indie Rock or Indie Pop (out of the two it came down to Indie Rock) and so confirmed our agreement with Indie Rock and could not have been possible without verbal communication.

Technical Tutorials

For our technical tutorial we learnt the basics within Photoshop as this will then allow our groups to create professional looking digi packs that correspond well without song, genre and artist.

Basics...

. When photos are imported remember to delete them from the camera after, otherwise there becomes a build up of images and can become confusing when determining what images have already been tried and tested to be best suited for an Indie Rock genre.

. Put all images into our named student folders so we spend more time creating our digi packs rather than trying to find our images.

When in Photoshop go...

. File - New - type Name (add title)

. Change size to 12cm X 12cm - this then creates a square like shape, however create one with 1 or 2 centimetres in order for the album cover to bend easily with a spacious spine.

When importing an image into Photoshop...

. File - Open -*find photo* - open

. Click the image and drag to then copy (CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) into the blank canvas

. Once inserted then re-size the image to fit in any blank spaces (CTRL+T hold down SHIFT to keep the image even)

When learning about Photoshop within media studies I found most of the skills to be the same when using Photoshop in other lessons, however to use Photoshop when creating a digi pack (which is required for any professional look music artist/band) it needs to be catered to the chosen genre's conventions. Even when learning how to use a programme like Photoshop, I learnt, that it is always easier to practise creating covers that not only relate to your genre but also creating a cover that follows the conventions of that genre, so that the more practise that is being held now, reflects later on within the music video/digi pack task as they have developed and look more mainstream professional.

Green Screen...

When it comes to using the green screen you have to make sure that everything is set up according to your needs, in order to make everything much more easier when editing in pre-production for either a music video or film. Before even getting started you will need to make sure that you have the essentials:

• Green Screen
• Spot Lights
• Cameras
• And Green Screen Stands

It is important to have lights whenever working with a Green Screen as this then allows any shadows to become invisible as that then means, when it comes to editing another image or moving image on to the Green area there will be more of an area that has the same colour of green, which is much more helpful as you no longer then have to worry about trying to change all the tiny areas of the Green Screen another image; they'll all be the same colour so less time is wasted.

Personally, for our groups genre of Indie Rock, I would prefer our group to not use a Green Screen as all the places required for my group to film in our in an respectable distance and so it would not take up much filming time or cost unnecessary amount of money. However if we had chosen a different genre with a more exotic, up-beat song then we would have been more interested to use a Green Screen as it would then save my group money trying to get around to all these expensive locations. I also believe that if our genre deemed it fit to need a Green Screen, and if we were able to pull it off, then it would like professional, but  genre does not need a Green screen, nor does our concept then it would seem very unprofessional.
